What is the Bethany Fireman's Association?
The Bethany Volunteer Fire Department and Ambulance Corps proudly protects and serves the 5,000 people living in the 1,500 homes in town. The department also protects the over 50 businesses, 2 churches, 2 schools, and 3 state roads, an area covering 21 square miles. The department operates out of two fire stations: Bethany Fire Department Headquarters located on Amity Road, and Hinman Station located at the intersection of Bear Hill Road and Hinman Road. The two fire stations house three engines, two tanker/pumpers, a heavy rescue truck, a 100 ft. ladder truck, a brush truck, a special operations trailer, command truck, two ambulances, and an EMS fly car.
In addition, the Bethany Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with the Fire Departments of Hamden, Prospect, Woodbridge, Beacon Falls, and Seymour. The Ambulance Corps has mutual aid agreements with the Ambulance services of Seymour, Beacon Falls, Naugatuck, and American Medical Response. The Ambulance Corps is the busiest of the department's services. All Ambulance Corps members are trained to a minimum of MRT level, while most members are EMT-Basic's.
The Association is financially supported by a small percentage of the tax dollars from the Town of Bethany and private donations. These funds go towards Fire protection. The Ambulance Corps is funded by private donations. The fire apparatus and equipment that the Association operates are owned by the Town of Bethany. While the ambulances and EMS fly-car are owned and operated by the Association.
